Knife mills from Retsch GmbH are used for grinding and homogenizing elastic, fibrous, soft, dry and wet materials as well as medium-hard materials. In less than 30 seconds, Retsch knife mills produce reliable (homogenized) and reproducible grinding results!
The fineness of the sample after grinding with knife mills depends on the sieve used.
RETSCH manufactures quality knife mills such as the Grindomix GM 200 knife mill and the Grindomix GM 300 knife mill for food sample preparation for GMO detection. The GM 200 and GM 300 knife mills help to obtain homogenized samples, which are the key to accurate food and feed analysis. Depending on the mill, the maximum particle size is up to 130 mm. And the fineness of the ground sample can be up to 300 µm!
Working principle of knife mills
Two or three sharp knives rotate in the middle of the grinding jar of a knife mill. As a consequence, grinding is carried out with the blunt side (pre-cutting) or the sharp side (final fine grinding), depending on the direction of rotation. The knives are driven by a powerful industrial motor through a gearbox. The set speed is maintained electronically, ensuring optimum adaptation to the various applications and guaranteeing a high level of reproducibility.
